Helping you relax

Too many people, particularly if they have had a bad experience at the dentist, going back to the Dentist can be a very worrying experience and the cause of much apprehension.

All dentists at John Street Dental recognise that the key to anxiety control is to be outgoing and caring to gain the patient’s confidence. Your comfort is foremost to us at John Street Dental, both while in our relaxing reception area and while having your treatment in the dental lounge.

Beyond excellent communication John Street Dental now also offers the following means to assist patients in getting the treatment they need.

1. Sedation

We have a range of sedation options that can be discussed with your dentist.

2. Good pain control through Local Anaesthetic:

Good local anaesthetic technique can make all dental procedures a painless experience. All John Street Dental dentists apply a combination of topical skin cream initially (to avoid the sensation of injection) and a very slow application of the solution to minimise any discomfort.

Patients compliment our team daily on the how gently and painlessly this part of the treatment unfolds.

3. Headphones & Music, Television:

For patients concerned about the ‘Noise of the Drill’ you can bring your favourite tunes to listen to on your own device this is quite a popular means of reducing the outside sound level. Background music is always playing in all surgeries.

4. General Anaesthesia:

For patients whose fear of dentistry is insurmountable and who need a reasonable amount of work done John Street Dental has arrangements with a local Specialist Anaesthetic Practice to do General Anaesthetic work.

This usually needs a two week lead time. This is also excellent for Children who aren’t able to tolerate or cooperate sufficiently for treatment in the dental chair. There are of course additional costs involved.

Administered with a fine needle, local anaesthetic is used for longer or more invasive procedures. The area being treated is completely numb so you don’t feel a thing and although it may feel and sound a little funny for a while afterwards, it usually wears off after an hour.
