Child Dental Benefit Scheme – is your child eligible?

The School holidays have been extended for two weeks, so what a great opportunity to bring your child for a check up at John Street Dental, your Local Redcliffe Dentists.

Did you know the Medicare covers part or the full cost of some basic dental services for children if you get certain payments from Centrelink?

To be eligible for the Child Dental Benefit Scheme,  your child must be all of the following:

  • 0 to 17 years old for at least one day that calendar year
  • eligible for Medicare
  • getting a payment from us at least once a year, or have a parent getting a payment from us at least once a year.

Medicare covers up to $1,026 over 2 calendar years for basic dental services under CDBS. The cap amount is indexed yearly on 1 January.  The services Medicare will cover include any of these:

  • check-ups
  • X-rays
  • cleaning
  • fissure sealing
  • fillings
  • root canals
  • extractions.

The 2 year period starts at the beginning of the calendar year in which your child both:

  • becomes eligible
  • gets their first dental service.

You can use the full amount up to $1,026 in the first calendar year. This will leave no funds for the second year. If you don’t use the full $1,026 in the first year, you can use it in the second year if your child is still eligible.

So, why not use the extra school holidays to get your child’s teeth checked?
