The Art and Science of Dentistry: Introducing Dr Lina Zhou at John Street Dental

One of the questions I get quite often, (other than “Is this going to hurt?”) is “What made you want to look at teeth all day?”

The short answer I give is “Because there is never a boring day.” The long answer? Well let me delve a bit into my background.

Before attaining by Bachelor of Dental Science honours degree in the University of Queensland, I had my high school education at the Queensland Academy of Creative Industry. You can imagine the surprise I received from my mates when I told them I am off to become a dentist. But for me, it was a natural decision. While I had a passion for the arts, I also harboured an interest in science. At the same time, I wanted to have a meaningful career where I can use my abilities to help people. Turns out Dentistry is a great amalgamation of both art and science. And funny enough, one of the first textbooks we had to read was called Sturdevant’s Art and Science of Operative Dentistry.

Over the years, it seems like I have made the right decision. I have enjoyed helping people improve their smile with my love of the art and science. With the knowledge in biology and chemistry, I help people understand how to maintain the healthy teeth and gum.  And using my artistic skills, I rebuild or replace broken teeth and help guide people to their dream smile.

P.S. circling back to the other question that was often asked: “Is this going to hurt?”. I am happy to report patients often told me I was gentle and gave pleasant dental injections. Well, unless they were just being nice. Why not make an appointment for a comprehensive exam today?  Call John Street Dental on 3284 4281 or Book Online
