Dental Health Week at your Redcliffe Dentist

Dental Health Week 2015 aims to create awareness of three main issues.

Mouthguard awareness: Anyone who plays contact sport should be wearing a mouthguard. Mouthguards are custom made to each individual for the perfect fit. Mouthguards protect your teeth from trauma of a knock and can potentially save your teeth. There are mouthguards available from chemists that are ill fitting and are loose in the mouth and offer less protection than custom made guards.

Sports related dental trauma and tooth first aid: It is important to react quickly in the case of mouth trauma. Get to the dentist for a check as soon as possible even if you think there has been no damage. If a tooth has been knocked out do not touch the root of the tooth and put the tooth into milk immediately and see your local dentist.

Sports hydration, dental caries and erosion: It is important to be aware of the effect of sports drinks on oral health. Sports drinks have a lot of sugar in them which can lead to dental decay. It is important if drinking these sports drinks to rinse your mouth out with water and do not sip on them, drink the whole bottle at once so there is less time that the sugar is in contact with your teeth.
