Motivating your child to brush their teeth is not always an easy task… Brushing their teeth is probably one of the last things on children’s busy minds.

So we have put together a few helpful and easy tips to help you get your child more interested in the critical task of cleaning their pearly whites.

  • Start oral hygiene early: The earlier your start getting your children into the habit of brushing their teeth the easier it will be to get them to do it with out the fuss.
  • Brush your teeth together: Children love to copy what their parents are doing, so if you both brush your teeth at the same time they will love to be doing the same thing as you. let them have a go themselves.  However it is important to then jump in and help to ensure their teeth are getting brushed thoroughly.
  • Let your child pick their own toothbrush: If your child is allowed to pick their toothbrush this can bring excitement to this time of the day and they may even practice more often.
  • Play some music: Music can help pass the time along quicker.
  • Age appropriate toothpaste: Children’s toothpaste comes in a variety of flavours and have fun characters on the packaging . Allow your child to pick their favorite colour and flavour- If they like the taste of the toothpaste they will be more inclined to want to brush their teeth.
  • Use reward charts: Encourage you child to keep track of their brushing using a chart. This is an exciting way to keep them motivated and they may even get a surprise when they reach the end of the chart.
