Dental Implants- Dr Rishi

Dental Implants have changed the face of dentistry over the last 25 years.

Here at John Street Dental we can offer Dental implants as a treatment option for our patients with Dr Rishi Weerashinghe.  Now patients have an alternative to dealing with gaps in the mouth, teeth that are structurally flawed with cracks or that have insufficient tooth structure for further treatment.

Dental implants are a replacement for the root of a tooth that are secured in the jaw bone in the form of a titanium screw.  Titanium is used most commonly for this procedure as it is lightweight, strong and bio-compatible,  meaning that it is not rejected by the body.  You cannot see the implant once it has been placed- it looks and feels the most like an actual tooth more so than any other replacement option.  Implants can also be used to help to secure bridges or dentures in the mouth.

Dental implants can be placed in most adults who are in good to moderate health.  Good physical and oral health can be paramount to the success of an implant as gum health and bone support are very important to both healing and maintenance.

At John Street Dental the implant procedure is done in house, offering convenience of location and requires minimal surgery which can be easily managed with a local anesthetic making for a quick recovery following the procedure.

Implant treatment is broken down into four specific parts/ appointments-

  1. Treatment planning
  2. Implant placement
  3. Abutment placement
  4. Final crown placement

The implant (or fixture) is placed into the bone and allowed to heal, which can take anywhere up to six months.  After this, the crown is then placed onto the fixture using either screws or cement.

After care of an implant is also very important- You must brush twice a day and floss at least once a day.  Attending John Street Dental for regular check up and clean appointments is imperative to the health and longevity of your implant. This will ensure your teeth and gums are kept in optimum condition, ensuring you will keep your beautiful new smile for life.

Certain uncontrolled medical conditions may decrease the effectiveness of implant treatment, so be sure to discuss your full medical history with your dentist at John Street dental before beginning this treatment.
