Pregnancy and Oral Health
Its always important to take care of your teeth and gums, but when pregnant even more so. Pregnant women who experience vomiting and acid reflex, are at more risk of experiencing tooth decay and erosion.
To help reduce the damage you should:
- Rinse your mouth out with water
- Chew sugar free gum
- Brush and floss 2-3 times a day
- Brush with fluoridated toothpaste
Fluoride is a great way to strengthen your teeth and helps the developing babies teeth. (Fluoride does not harm a developing baby.)
Bleeding gums is also very common and can effect a lot of pregnant woman. It is very important to make sure you keep your gums healthy with daily flossing and regular dental checkups.
A few other ideas to incorporate into your daily routine to ensure gum health when pregnant can include:
- Gargling with warm salty water
- Taking vitamin C supplements
- Drinking/eating milk and milk products
